Spit and Intercepting Login Data

Similar to spam, SPIT (spam over Internet telephony) refers to the illegal practice of computer programs forwarding you countless telemarketing calls. Interception of your VoIP login data – enabled by a Trojan horse on your PC for example – can make also it possible for unauthorised parties to place calls using your VoIP login.
Although there have so far been no known cases in Germany, we would still like to provide you a list of precautions to take.

Here’s how to protect yourself

Protect your DSL router’s user interface with a password.
Use a firewall and keep it up-to-date by installing regular firmware updates. This protects you from external attacks.
If necessary, block incoming calls with unavailable numbers in your DSL router.
If you place calls over a WLAN, make sure to use WPA or WPA2 encryption.

Here’s how AVM protects you

Each FRITZ!Box has a powerful TÜV-tested firewall to protect your PC reliably against external attacks.
You can configure various settings for incoming calls in FRITZ!Box Fon. For example, you can block individual numbers using the blacklist function or callers with unavailable numbers.
FRITZ!Box comes with WPA and WPA2 encryption already activated, which, in combination with your personal password, prevents external access to your FRITZ!Box.
Your VoIP account login is also encrypted by FRITZ!Box and cannot be intercepted.
